Buy Fireworks: Frequently Asked Questions

frequently asked questions Questions most often asked by customers .

frequently asked question Can I buy fireworks at any time of year?
frequently asked question Yes, and fireworks are increasingly popular throughout the year for weddings, birthdays and even at summer evening barbecues. Remember that demand is heavy as Nov.5th and New Year approach so order early.

frequently asked question Can I let my fireworks off at any time?
frequently asked question Yes, with certain limitations - but the law is only the embodiment of common sense and consideration for others. Fireworks are not allowed after 11.00pm (or earlier than 7.00am) except on Bonfire Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year (1am). More on the law.

frequently asked question Do I need a licence or any special permission?
frequently asked question No.A private display needs no formalities. If you are putting on a public display, or are charging for entry then you should follow all the published guidelines for an organised event.
Read the Health & Safety Executive Guidelines on Fireworks Displays

frequently asked question Can you post my fireworks?
frequently asked question No. The Royal Mail service will not accept fireworks. Instead we have to use special carriers.

frequently asked question So how soon can you deliver?
frequently asked question Usually within a week. 48hours is possible but only in special circumstances. See the page on deliveries. Keep in mind that extra demand can lead to longer turnaround times, especially approaching Nov5th, and the Christmas holiday period affects fireworks required for New Year celebrations.

frequently asked question Do I need insurance?
frequently asked question Most good household policies will cover the risks associated with domestic fireworks. If in doubt, check with your insurance company. You will definitely need special cover if you run a public event - see insurance for more details.

frequently asked question How do I know my fireworks are safe?
frequently asked question All of our fireworks conform to BS 7114 Part 2:1988 the quality standard for fireworks in UK. Beware of fireworks from untrustworthy sources.

frequently asked question Is my garden big enough?
frequently asked question Most of our fireworks are Cat.3. The recommended viewing distance is 25m. Some are Cat.2 for which the recommended minimum viewing distance is 10m.

frequently asked question Cat.3?
frequently asked question Fireworks are classified into four categories by BS7114. Only Cat.2 and 3 have any real relevance to consumer display fireworks. More on Cat.2 & 3, and BS7114

frequently asked question So how big are your fireworks?
frequently asked question The constraints of web design make it difficult to represent the size accurately but some indications of relative sizes of fireworks are shown here.

frequently asked question Can I buy professional fireworks?
frequently asked question Cat.3 are used in professional displays but Cat.4 can only be purchased and used by properly accredited fireworks companies. We do not supply Cat.4 fireworks.

frequently asked question I've been told I must have a professional for a wedding display.
frequently asked question If the venue insists, whether for a wedding, birthday or any other occasion, then this is their prerogative.

frequently asked question Can you do a special message / picture?
frequently asked question Yes. Popular symbols and messages are available from stock, or specials can be custom made to order.

frequently asked question What if the weather is poor?
frequently asked question Bad weather need not affect a fireworks display, but it might limit the enjoyment of your spectators! Most fireworks can be protected against rain with polythene bags or clingfilm. Leave it as late as possible before you set them out.
Strong wind is a major consideration though in canceling your fireworks. You should not ignite anything (including the bonfire!) if there is a risk of burning debris being blown in an unwanted direction.

frequently asked question Why don't you sell bangers / jumping jacks?
frequently asked question Many types of fireworks which adults remember from their own childhood are no longer available either by law or by a voluntary agreement within the fireworks industry. This includes bangers and, as a general rule, fireworks of erratic flight. More on the law.

A quality cake or single ignition unit is crammed with tubes giving a long burning time filled with action Beware of brands which you've never heard of, or with no reputation. These cakes look big on the shelf or in the description but look at them with the top removed! One has only 10 tubes and the other has more polystyrene than pyro!
Caution: Fireworks legislation is not coordinated across the EC. You may be offered fireworks bought abroad with no UK BS7114 accreditation. These fireworks are illegal to buy, sell or use.
