The first ever Battle Proms event was held at Battle Abbey, East Sussex in 1997 and now more than 20 years on their popularity continues to grow as the venue has now evolved into the UK’s foremost picnic concert series, and they are all set in the grounds of some of England’s most beautiful stately homes.
The fabulous displays and the fireworks used in them are under the guidance of the company “Skyburst” from Bristol who has over one hundred years of collective experience in the fireworks industry, and It’s safe to say that they know a thing or two about displays having won some of the top UK pyro awards.
The event was initially established to answer the question ‘whatever shall we do with the 200 live firing replica Napoleonic cannons.’
At the time they underutilized and just not earning their keep, and were stored with the English Field Artillery Company, and thus the Battle Concert concept was born.
The events today even has a group known as ‘the battle promenaders’ a bunch of loyal followers, who love getting out to enjoy the historical homes around the UK while also enjoying classical music.
Written in 1813 The Battle Symphony by Beethoven was used to celebrate the victory at the battle of Vittoria by the Duke of Wellington over the French.
Each of the following stately homes will be running events.
- Burghley House in Lincolnshire – 07th of July 2018.
- Hatfield House in Hertfordshire – 14th of July 2018.
- Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire – 21st of July 2018.
- Highclere House in Hampshire – 04th August 2018.
- Ragley Hall in Warwickshire – 11th August 2018.
