As many of you might have heard in the press, we have recently applied for a Trademark for the word “FireWorks”. We are confident that once granted, we can enforce the trademark to ensure that only fireworks and Firework resellers that meet our standard will be allowed to sell them in the UK from 2018.
In August this year we acquired the brand FireWorks.co.uk. Almost immediately we started to receive calls from members of the public who called us to complain about fireworks that they had bought from other websites or shops. People assumed that because we are FireWorks.co.uk, we were behind the manufacture and import of FireWorks for all of the United Kingdom.
It is unfair to have our brand diminished by inferior products. We take great care and only sell the best FireWorks. We needed to take action to get these people to stop.
With no other options available to protect our reputation. Last month we contacted Trademark professionals in London who have assured us that we can trademark the term “fireworks” for things that are linked to pyrotechnics.
This would give us the ability to enforce strict quality guidelines on anyone else in the UK who wants to use the word “FireWorks” to sell their products. Businesses that want to sell their products in the UK would have to apply for a license through us.
To cover the cost of setup and administration of the new licensing system we may need to charge an ongoing license fee on any fireworks being sold throughout the UK. We will try to keep the cost of this to a minimum.
We would like people to remind people that we are doing this for quality and safety reasons. This is not for financial gain. Anyone that currently runs a firework type business can simply reword their products to pyrotechnics to avoid our licensing scheme.
